Seventy years is more than just a number, it represents a journey; one of passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the study, preservation and promotion of our nation's rich and complex history. Since its founding in 1955, the HSN has been the beacon of historical scholarship in Nigeria. It has nurtured generations of historians, shaped academic discourse, and played a crucial role in documenting the stories that define who we are as a people. This event is made even more significant by the esteemed presence of our colleagues from the Association of African Historians. Your participation underscores the shared purpose that binds us together—to decolonize our history, tell our own stories, and ensure that the African past is understood on its own terms. We stand on the shoulders of giants who laid the foundation for these vital organizations; we celebrate their legacy and look to the future with a renewed commitment to promoting historical research, education, and collaboration across the continent.
